You would not have to struggle zeroing your rifle using live ammunition if you have a laser boresight to do it with. Red-i-Laser manufactures the Red-i unit; a chambered laser sight that emits a laser beam that shines through the barrel and onto the target, precisely where the live round would hit.
Note and memorise the position of the laser dot in relation to the position of the crosshairs or sights. This relation will stay the same and you would not have to repeat the exercise. The Red-i-Laser unit is a chambered bore sight and has become an indispensible part of professional hunting gear. It was the first bore sight that had its internal laser aligned with the outer dimensions of the cartridge.

With a proper sighting tool from Red-i-Laser, it is far easier to set your sights and your scope crosshairs without even using live ammunition. The Red-i sighting tool is inserted into the chamber and it is activated when you close the bolt. The battery-powered laser switches on and shines down the barrel and onto your target.
The target should ideally be placed around 25 metres away for the best results. The live round would hit on the spot where the laser is shining. Carefully note the relation between the laser dot and the sights (or scope crosshairs) and memorise it. This relation will not change and you would not have to repeat this procedure. As you can see, the Red-i-Laser sighting tool must surely be the easiest and fastest sighting tool in the world.
